Bryanston's Favourite Bistro

Lanser’s on Main is a Bistro Style Restaurant in Johannesburg (Bryanston), serving French and Italian style food, with a warm and easy ambiance to match. We’re open from 11:00 – 22:00 every day, except Sunday. We look forward to receiving your order.

Lanser’s on Main is located on Main Road in the heart of Bryanston, one block above the DiData Campus. We boast an incredible view stretching out towards Kyalami. At Lanser’s on Main you’ll experience a warm and relaxing ambience, that contrasts to the hustle and bustle of a busy Main Road below. It’s the perfect venue for our ‘neighbourhood Bistro’.

For those who don’t know, Bistro’s originated in Paris, France. Their menus were built around foods that were simple, could be prepared in quantity and would keep over time. Wine and coffee were also served.

Today, Bistro’s are typically small restaurants, serving moderately priced simple meals in a modest setting and defined mostly by the foods they serve. French (and in our case some Italian thrown in) home-style cooking with a tasty twist.

While we’re proud of our TripAdvisor rating as a Top 10 Restaurant in Bryanston, from the start we’ve always been primarily passionate about the quality and taste of our food. Our menu is designed to surprise our guests with the aromas and flavours of our dishes. It’s always a delight to watch a guest’s face light up when their taste buds experience the unexpected.

We’ve chosen an old school French theme to define our environment, from the music you hear in the background to the old black and white French and Italian movies playing on the TV above our bar. The ambiance at Lanser’s on Main is often described as easy, laid back and feels like home.

From the start we’ve set our sights on becoming Bryanston’s Favourite Neighbourhood Restaurant. In order to do this we know your experience at Lanser’s on Main has to be a personal one, so please engage with Lanser and the team as they describe in more detail, the dishes you’re interested in. We’d like you to feel free to ask for your own twist to your meal if it’s going to help you feel more at home. We want to know what didn’t work, and what did work? Lanser is a Chef, a creative. There’s nothing more important for him than to know how you can have an even better experience on your next visit?

We’re not a chain or a brand, and we don’t have a menu cast in stone or a set way of doing things. We’re old school like that. For all of our team it’s a relationship with a community of people, made up of individuals. We’re always ready to ensure you have a fantastic dining experience.

With a financial management degree behind him, Lanser set out to follow his passion and trained at the HTA School of Culinary Arts. He finished his City and Guilds Diploma in Professional Cookery and Cape Wine Masters Diploma. He then headed overseas to work with Gary Rhodes at his One Michelin Star restaurant, Rhodes 24, as well as other well known restaurants in London.

Returning home, Lanser worked with Thomas Barker at Thomas Maxwell Bistro, Giles in Craighall, Bottega in Parkhurst before co-building the Cedar Lakes Clubhouse Restaurant. Lanser is now living his dream and destiny at Lanser’s on Main.

What you’ll quickly discover when you meet Lanser is that he’s a Restaurateur who’s passionate about the taste experience of his guests, and his interaction with all people.

We’re always looking for ways to improve each of our guest’s experience at Lanser’s on Main. One of the ways we mark our progress is through the reviews our guests leave for us on TripAdvisor, Google and Facebook. If you have the time, please let us know how your dining experience was during your last visit?

“Creative Cuisine”

“Lanser, the resident chef and owner provides personal contact with his patrons. The menu is just a guide. He is most accommodating with personal requests.

The music is tastefully selected, and most important the venue is quiet and you can have a conversation while speaking in a normal voice.”

“We’ll Be Back”

“A fantastic experience, from friendly staff and exceptionally tasty food, to the personal touch by the owner and chef.

It was the perfect place to take my wife for our 2 year wedding anniversary.

We will certainly be back.
