HOW YOU PLAY MUSIC BINGO:

Each team will receive a bingo card (per round) and pen
Look over your card which has 26 squares, these are filled with song titles or artist names
Our host will then announce the start of the round, and then start to play the music.
Your job is to listen carefully, cross the songs or artists off your card.
Once you’ve filled in the squares that create the Bingo Goal for that round, you yell BINGO!!
If you’re correct, you’re a winner. If not, then we carry on until we get another BINGO!!

Vondeling vineyards run off the South-facing slopes of the Paardeberg Mountain. The decomposed granite soil, along with habitual afternoon South Westerly winds, give their wines a vibrancy in an otherwise warm climate area.

As a destination Vondeling includes a historic Cape Dutch homestead and St Clement’s Chapel; a consecrated church.

There are breathtaking views of mountains and vineyards in every direction. It’s a privilege to be able to view the surrounding landscape from the highest peak of the Paardeberg where you’ll find one of the Cape’s original Signal Cannons, which was once used to communicate to farmers that a ship had arrived in Cape Town’s Table Bay Harbour.

The history of Neethlingshof Estate spans more than 300 years. In 1692, Willem Barend Lubbe, a German settler, began farming the site he had been granted by Governor of the Cape Simon van der Stel on the Bottelary Hills overlooking False Bay. He named the farm De Wolwedans, “The Dance of Wolves”, having mistaken for wolves the packs of jackals roaming the countryside.

At Neethlingshof winemakers worked unhurriedly at perfecting their craft. For more than a century the Estate has been synonymous with the best wine-making traditions of the Western Cape.

Since 2003 Neethlingshof has been following an active biodiversity orientated strategy in its farming practices. We are moving away from a mono culture of vines and in the process we are giving back to nature some of what we took from her in the past.

For our Zevenwacht Wine Pairing in May 2024, we were joined by Janine Shearer representing the farm. We wrote the following poem to kick things off….

Welcome back,
It’s been a while
An invitation to Wine Pairing
I bet it brought a smile

Zevenvacht’s our wine
A farm from Stellenbosch
Meaning Seven Expectations
By golly, that sounds posh

I have some peeps
Tonight I must mention
Dom our good friend
Out spending his pension

Can’t leave out Auralia
She’s about to split
Rumour has it
She’s fallen in love with a Brit

On to my favourites
The gorjus hot ducks
Looking radiant as ever
Wish I’d worn a Tux

Kerry’s back
For a brief interlude
With Catherine and friends

Hosting a Business Lunch in Bryanston? How to choose Wisely?

We’re located in the heart of one of Bryanston’s business / office nodes, and often have people joining us for a business lunch or dinner. Sometimes it’s a meal to get away from the hustle and bustle, more often than not, it’s an important meeting over a meal. Doing business over a meal is a ritual that has existed for centuries, and has long been an effective way to build relationships, make the sale or seal the deal.

We’ve been told that we’re a great restaurant for these types of meetings, and while we’re pretty sure we understand why people say that, we decided to do some research on what makes the best restaurant for a business lunch, or dinner?

Esquire had this to say about a business meal:

A business meal is not about the food. It is essentially a more convivial extension of a staid office meeting, a way to charm or even seduce a client. And while one’s familiarity with a client’s tastes and preferences can be helpful in selecting the right restaurant, it is far more beneficial to one’s game plan to hold the lunch or dinner with the home-field advantage, a place where you are known, a regular whose own preferences come into play.

Why Your Restaurant Choice Matters?

Very simply, if your guests enjoy themselves, they’ll remember you fondly in the future. Relationships are critical in business and having people both remember you, and have good memories of a lunch or dinner experience with you, creates all sorts of benefits and opportunities in the future. A meal isn’t just the sum of the food ingredients. The correct experience, ambience, service, choice of dishes, etc all contribute to the memories people are left with. A good rule of thumb is to avoid choosing a restaurant that’s too large, too loud, or too trendy.

Know your Guests

Do you best to know the preferences of your guests. This doesn’t only include what food they do and don’t eat, but also what food they prefer, and what they’ve been eating during the past week (especially if they’ve been travelling a lot). There will be times where you can’t gather this type of information. In those situations you can either offer them a choice of restaurants and allow them to pick, or you can choose a restaurant where you know the Chef will work with your guest’s preferences to ensure they have a great meal.

Avoid Franchises

While you might think that a franchise restaurant is a safe choice, they don’t make for very memorable eating experiences. It’s always a good idea to choose somewhere local. You want to give your guest a taste of your local favourite, that doesn’t exist anywhere else. These types of restaurants are often owner run, and getting to know the owner can help to create a more intimate feel and experience.

Do a Recce

If you’re still unsure which restaurant to choose, call ahead or preferably go in for a meal on your own and talk to the manager / owner, describe your situation, and ask for their advice on how best to accommodate you? You’ll know by their response if you’ve found what you’re looking for.

In 1696 Pieter de Vos could feast his eyes on what you see today – Table Mountain, the Helderberg mountain, the Eerste River, The Atlantic Ocean, vineyards and waving fields.

History, heritage and harmony converge here – wine making over three centuries, vrijburgers layering and expanding the homestead, barn, slave lodge, threshing floor and cellars into one of the oldest and most intact of the early wine farms of the Cape of Good Hope. This is a living, evolving national monument, part of the European Heritage Project and a WWF conservation site.
